Juvia Loxar ~ Christmas Edition
Fairy Tail

Inspiration: I love Christmas and have wanted to make a Christmas inspired costume for some time. My friends were making similar costumes from different series so that inspired me to make one this year. I chose Juvia from my favorite manga, Fairy Tail, and since there’s no actual art of her in holiday gear, I designed the outfit myself based off her original outfit.

Materials/Construction Details: The coat is made out of super soft velvet using a modified coat pattern, lined in pink flannel to help keep me warm (and because Juvia likes pink), and then trimmed in white fur. I made the caplet and hat out of burgundy velvet to give the outfit a two-toned look similar to the blue coat she wears in the manga. The hat was shaped out of cardboard and then covered in fabric. I chose thigh highs with red hearts to match her parasol design and added red velvet bows to the top to tie them into the outfit. The Fairy Tail logo at the bottom of the coat was cut out of white crushed velvet and ironed on.

Wig: I used the same wig from my previous Juvia costume (a scruffy in light blue), which was picked to match the color of her hair in the manga. Now that the anime is out, her hair is a much darker blue. I hope to purchase a new wig for future Juvia costumes. I also wanted to style her other hairstyle for this outfit, which is longer with a thick curl around the bottom, but I decided to hold off on purchasing a new wig until after the holidays.

Wig 2.0: For 2011 I updated this costume with Juvia’s other hairstyle, which I thought went with the costume better. I got a 26″, medium blue wig from Epic Cosplay wigs to start. To make the curls, I wrapped the hair in sections around small cranberry sauce cans (on sale after Thanksgiving!) and then sprayed them in place with got2b Glued Blasting Freeze Spray. I also held the curls in place with several bobby pins. The style started going limp towards the end of the night though, so I will need to restyle it and cement the curls in place a little better.

Prop: The parasol was made for my original Juvia costume. The only alterations I made to the purchased parasol was adding the red hearts on the panels.
