Ritsu Tainaka ~ Juliet School Play
K-On!

Inspiration: K-On has always had a special place in my heart. I’ve wanted to do these outfits with Tham ever since I first saw the episode. They’re just so dorky and cute and I thought it would lead to a bunch of silly picture opportunities. I was right!

Materials/Construction Details: I adjusted the dress to an empire waist pattern to make it slightly more flattering on a real person. The dress is made out of red suiting. I used my new serger for the first time to finish the insides of the skirt. The undershirt is made out of orange cotton with some light interfacing worked into the sleeve to help the poof stay up. I bought a knit hat and attached it to some gold braid and trimmed it down till it fit the wig and my head just right. Overall, this was a pretty simple costume.

Wig: I couldn’t use my usual Ritsu wig, so I had to get a new one. This was a base wig with a clip on pony tail. I gathered the hair at the back of the wig into a pony tail, then cut it and stubbed it with caulk. I then took the clip off the pony tail extension and glued/sewed the hair into the base wig on top of the stub. Before wrapping the ribbon around the pony tail, I had to hide some foam in the hair towards the top so that it would taper down to a point. I also had the style the bangs up with a lot of hair spray. When the wig was finished, I went ahead and sewed the the hat to the wig as well.
