Georg Prime
Suikoden V
Inspiration: I made this costume for Tom as a compliment to my Prince. Georg is a trusted friend of the royal family and a body guard/role model to the Prince. Tom and I are both giant Suikoden fans so we had to make these costumes while the game was still fresh!
Materials/Construction Details: A lot of vinyl was used in the making of this costume. At first I was stuck because the vinyl didn’t want to move through my sewing machine, but I learned if you put a little bit of chapstick along the edges, the vinyl slips right through the machine. It’s a little gross, but it worked. Georg has an odd waist guard, which I made out of blue, black, and white vinyl decorated with heavy duty snaps. His coat, caplet, and all the little belts hanging off of it were made out of brown suede. The undershirt was a white, long sleeved turtleneck that was trimmed with blue bias tape. A friend wove the chainmail breast plate that sits under the caplet. Georg’s giant eye patch was made out of black vinyl with yellow ribbon and gold vinyl accents.
Wig: The wig was a basic men’s short black wig with a bit of styling done to give it a messier look.
Prop: Tom actually did all the work on his sword. He bought a wooden sword and painted all the details on it, such as the diamond pattern on the hilt and the additional white and gold patterns across the scabbard. The blade of the sword was painted a polished silver and looked very realistic in pictures.
