Asuka Kazama
Tekken 5
Inspiration: Tekken is Tom’s favorite fighting game, so when Tekken 5 was released, I watched him play through all the story modes. The newly introduced Asuka was brash and over confident, but I found her to be rather cute. Her kimono optional outfit caught my attention, though I’m not completely sure how she was able to fight in it. Tom was planning on cosplaying Feng Wei, whose character closely ties in with Asuka, so we chose to make these two costumes as a couple.
Materials/Construction Details: I basically drafted the pattern for the kimono myself, making sure the sleeves were extra long and wide. The kimono was black, and I lined the inside with white satin. The spider web pattern was painted on using many silver paint pens. To make the top I made many thin white tubes out of cotton and then did a combination of stitching, gluing, and tying them until I was satisfied with the look. I made two small navy blue belts to go around the neck and one larger one for the waist. The red sash was made out of satin and then layered with fake barb wire and blue cording. The tattoo on her thigh spells “Tsuutenkaku”, which is the name of a famous tower in Osaka, Asuka’s hometown. My tattoo was drawn on with black sharpie. I purchased a sprig of artificial pink cherry blossoms for my hair at Michaels.
Wig: I didn’t use a wig for this costume. I put my hair into a claw clip, gelled the ends up a bit, pushed my bangs to the side and clipped the cherry blossoms in place.
