Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney

Inspiration:  The Phoenix Wright games are super popular, fun little games.  I really enjoyed Ema in Apollo Justice.  She was so uncooperative and hilarious, yet very intelligent.  I made her costume when I heard there was going to be an Apollo Justice group at AWA.

Materials/Construction Details:  This costume was mostly bought, with a few minor adjustments to certain pieces.  For instance, I had the brown jeans, but I hemmed them up to make them capris.  I bought the lab coat, but had to take it in a little at the waist to make it more flattering.  The vest was made out of an olive knit and the scarf out of some hot pink remnants.  The bag was originally beige and brown, but I died it peachy-pink.  I made the cute face buttons on her bag.  The pink sunglasses and pink watch were lucky finds at Target.

Wig: This wig got to me at the last minute since it was accidentally sent to the wrong address and I didn’t have time to do much to it.  It ended up being a lot darker than I thought and I had to style it at the con.

Prop: During the game Ema is often seen munching on snacks, chewing very loudly when she wants to block someone out, or just throwing them at people she doesn’t like.  In the English version her snacks are called “Snackoos”, but they’re actually a Japanese snack called Karinto.  I was able to find a bag of these at an Asian food store so I got a bag to carry and pass out to people.  I also bought some test tubes, filled them with a certain clear beverage, and used food dye to tint them different colors.  These stuck out the side of Ema’s bag and at the end of the day the whole group took a shot.
